How to Overcome and Find Resilience in Adversity

My struggles are small in light of those interviewed in the pages of the latest book by Beth Lueders. I felt no less connected by their struggles to find hope, peace and remain resilient in the face of adversities. How are we to Bend without being broken? Beth relates her interviews with regular folks. Like you and I, they have overcome. They’ve managed to somehow, keep their joy in the midst of the most trying circumstances. This book is a rally to lean into the Bend.

Are you Struggling?

The last month has been a battle to refocus on what is good and hopeful.  This year has been one of constant redirection for us. It has been hard to get back into doing the things I love. Even the things I know I need to do. Like many of the friends I’ve spoken to, the events of this year have hung a weight on me. I have felt a sinking lowness that I couldn’t shake. Like my face was turned toward the ground. Bending under the weight of frustration and disappointment over how I believed things should go. I love how Beth affirms the possibility of resilience in adversity.

We Do Not Struggle Unseen or Alone

Beth Lueders book Bend; When Life Dares to Break You – Strength and Resilience from unlikely places; landed into my hands at just the right time. Reminding me to lift my eyes and see the path ahead of me. Her interviews reveal those who have bent, some lower than they could have imagined, and yet remained unbroken.  Her interviews and the unfolding stories remind me of the human capacity for resilience. Shadows of the grace God grants those who are in the middle of weary battles.

Each chapter is woven with the honesty and transparency that lead to authentic listening. I might not have the opportunity to sit with a mother who knows her time with her child is limited. I’ve not bantered with a scrappy survivor of wars, turned frail elder. Nor, did I sit with a witch over lunch in a hamburger joint. Beth brings us right into the conversation. She lets us feel the weight of their bending.

Bend Connects Us with New Voices

I appreciate her capacity to listen with an open heart. She brings a light of openness which is often missing in Christian writing. This book is a great message for parents and siblings who are Bending. Families who are enduring heartache and are holding on, feeling the full stretch of bending will relate to these stories.

Bending Under the Weight of Circumstances with Grace is Especially Challenging when it Involves Those You Love

Find Resilience & Strength in Adversity

The chapters have a follow up reflection chapter to help us refocus and connect with the deeper truths. Truths of hope, grace and the endless capacity to find glory in even the most unlikely circumstances. First, you can read Beth’s 7 Principal to Bending HERE. Then you too can look at your circumstances annew. Now, I am turning over rocks in the mud in my own life. You can start looking for the fingerprints of God in your circumstances again. I am confident you will find Him on your side. The stories I read in the chapters of Bend, When Life Dares You to Break are of people who found peace in the storm. I am glad to be in the company of others who have found strength and resilience in the face of adversity Even, while adversity has caused them to bend beyonmd what they thought capeable.
