Join me for a featured series, 10 sanity savers when remodeling

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this review or post, but all opinions are our own.

If you have a house that is going to need work at any point in time you are going to want to follow this series. My family of 12 just finished sweeping up the last of the dust from our huge whole house renovation. We are not handy. We have never done this before, but we have been plotting and planning since we moved in. In fact since July of 2001, when we moved into our 1900’s farm house. It was the kind of house that Bob Villa dreams of, a four square with great structure and handsome wood features. Our goal was to save it from disrepair, but in reality it started to fall apart as soon as we bought it. Truth is, that it what 100 year old houses do. We loved our big farm house and living out of town. We committed to chickens and dogs as we bought a local restaurant and sold the one we ran in a bigger city. We knew that this was where we wanted our children to grow up. We spent the next 12 years paying down the mortgage and planning for phase 2.

We began construction in early May of 2013. We had a plan, but as it often happens, things did not go according to our plan. We learned a ton of very practical tips along the way and we did do a lot right. We are very happy with the results compared to our expectations. I was only reduced to tears one time. (we were displaced for 6 months)

Our home is just recently starting to look like we live in a remodeled home. While it is still a ways from being finished, I would love to share 10 practical things we learned from our construction project.

If you are tearing down walls now or if you are just gathering information for a future purchase, you will use every suggestion that I have to offer in your project and they will save you money or brain cells. For me these 10 tips saved both.
