If you have read the Bible much you will notice that over and over, we are cautioned about grumbling and complaining. There are days, I have given over to my internal dialogue. You might know what those days are like. When you’ve already had the argument, twice, before the actual meeting. Days when the Lord and your windshield both know exactly what you are thinking. These arguments take up precious space. We cannot listen well to our children or our spouse when there is already a formed argument unpacking its suitcase in our mind.

Capturing our thoughts before they escape is noble, but taming the quiet spaces of our heart and mind should be our goal. The words out of our mouth are strongly tied to having a successful and peaceful homeschool. The negative is present, yes, that will always be true in our life, but like a cloud it can make it harder to see the true landscape. What if we take an intentional period to look at the unclouded landscape before us and marvel at the things that bring us joy.

What are the things you love about your day, your spouse, or each of your children? Every morning this week I would like for you to choose an area of your life and write a whole page of things that you love about each. Add the areas that you struggle with to the list.

If, like me, you have an area that you are really struggling to see reasons for joy, find a friend of strength and character who is willing to help see for you with faith filled eyes.

If you are experiencing sorrow and cannot find comfort in your situation, seek the truth in God’s word. It has been my solace many times over.

Curate a collection of praise and allow yourself to change your narrative. Practice speaking great things about your homeschool, family and spouse and help to create change in your life.

A heart of gratitude must be continually cultivated to grow seeds of love.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Philippians 4:8
